The
Fifth National Salon in Popular Astronomy
Constantine
31 0ctober - 2 November 2006
This
yearly Salon will be again an opportunity for amateur astronomers
all over the country to display their knowhow and skills to the
public.
It (almost) coincides with the International
Space Week meeting, if it wasn't for the Ramadhan which obliged
us to delay the main event a bit.
Ceci est la
rencontre astronomique de l'année pour les amateurs algériens.
Ne la manquer pas! |

The
Oct 3, Annular Solar Eclipse, Batna
How Sirius Made
it a Nationwide
Public Event
Sirius
set up an observing site at the Batna municipal stadium in eastern
Algeria. A dozen other astronomy associations were invited. Since
it was the only region along the path of the eclipse which was cloudless,
the National Algerian TV covered online from our site for close
to three hours. It was seen by some 10 million viewers, especially
youngsters since the day of the eclipse was declared a holiday
so that pupils would stay at home watching the eclipse on TV instead
of 'risking their sight' outside. All the official sites (Algiers,
Tizi Ouzou, Sétif) in the path of the annularity were fully
cloudy that morning.>>> |

The
Venus Transit 2004 (VT-2004)
A Rare Celestial Event
A transit of Venus across the disk
of the Sun is among the rarest of planetary alignments. The last
transit occurred 120 years ago in 1882, while the next one takes
place on 2004 June 08. Moving with an angular speed of 3.2 arc-minutes
per hour, Venus takes about 6.2 hours to cross the Sun's disk.
